Understanding pain
The pain often appears when climbing stairs, squatting, or after prolonged sitting. This syndrome does not necessarily indicate cartilage damage or patellar instability.
The Assessment
The examination analyzes limb movement, strength, and alignment. Imaging is considered if the context or progression warrants it.
Treatments
Management combines activity adaptation and progressive rehabilitation of the knee and hip. Loading is adjusted to the patient's tolerance. Surgery is rarely indicated for isolated patellofemoral pain.
Follow-up
Resumption is built up gradually with the physiotherapist. Persistent pain leads to a reassessment of the diagnosis and the program.
