Genu valgum.

Inward-pointing knees: assess alignment, pain, and stability.

01 · Your journey

What is genu valgum?

The knees come together while the ankles remain apart. Significant valgus can overload the outer compartment and contribute to patellar instability. Not all axis variations are pathological.

02 · Your journey

Locating the deformity

The gait analysis and standing lower limb X-rays clarify the axis. The assessment distinguishes between the femoral, tibial, and articular components and looks for associated lesions.

03 · Your Journey

Treatment according to the impact

In adults, measures adapted to the discomfort may be proposed. If correction is indicated, an osteotomy of the femur, tibia, or both is planned according to the measurements. The treatment of associated patellar instability requires a comprehensive analysis.

04 · Your Journey

Age changes the strategy.

In children, the evolution of the axis and remaining growth are essential. In some cases, guided growth allows for gradual correction. After skeletal maturity, this possibility no longer exists. Post-surgical follow-up takes into account bone consolidation.

Your questions.

Is surgery necessary just for the appearance of the legs?+

The decision requires an individualized assessment: symptoms, severity, progression, and impact are discussed during the consultation.
