Understanding.
Tumors in this area can be benign or malignant. Chordoma is one of the bone tumors to investigate in certain situations. The vast majority of coccyx pain is not caused by a tumor.
The assessment.
A mass, unusual progressive pain, or neurological symptoms warrant further investigation. MRI analyzes the lesion and its relationship to surrounding tissues; other examinations depend on its characteristics.
Treatments.
In case of suspected tumor, referral to a specialist team precedes any biopsy or intervention. For a chordoma in particular, the biopsy procedure must be planned with the team that will provide the treatment.
Follow-up.
Management is decided in a multidisciplinary meeting based on the nature and extent of the lesion. This is not the usual approach of a coccygectomy for mechanical pain.
Your questions.
Does nighttime pain indicate cancer?+
No. This sign is not very specific, but unusual and progressive pain should be evaluated.
