Understanding.
Discopathy refers to an alteration of the disc or the sacrococcygeal fibrocartilaginous junction. Inflammatory changes may be associated. Comparable lesions exist between certain segments of the coccyx.
The assessment.
The assessment compares the pain with the examination, X-rays, and, depending on the case, MRI. The latter may show abnormalities of the disc and adjacent bony endplates. Dynamic X-rays look for associated instability.
Treatments.
Management aims to reduce painful constraints and treat pain. A targeted injection may be discussed. Surgery may depend on the consistency of the assessment and the failure of the treatments undertaken.
Follow-up.
An abnormal MRI finding alone does not predict the outcome or effectiveness of an intervention.
Your questions.
Is it a herniated disc like in the lumbar region?+
No. This is a localized involvement of the sacrococcygeal junction, with a different anatomy and different implications.
